About Lewis Ashombang
My first DSLR camera did not come cheap, so I made up my mind to put it to good use. I have always been a big lover of landscape photography and even though I am nowhere near a professional, I have realised that with each press of the shutter button I move one step closer to perfecting my art. According to the father of modern photography, Henri Cartier-Bresson, your first 10,000 photographs are your worst and it is a little disheartening to think that I am yet to fill that quota. While I still have a lot to learn, my love and enthusiasm for the art certainly makes up for my inadequacies. Taking photos is my addiction and a rather expensive one I might add. Cameras are like tattoos, one is never enough. Sooner or later you eventually get trapped in the viscious lens-buying cycle.
My Travel partner
Anybody who has been around a photographer on a trip knows how annoying it can be, to be in the company of a person that has their eye glued to a viewfinder almost constantly. It would therefore be unfair to take credit for all my photos without acknowledging my girlfriend Meagan, for her constant support and patience with me during our travels. Sometimes, taking the perfect shot might mean staying on the spot for a couple of hours just to wait for the right conditions. I would like to think of Meagan as the creative director of my work, as she has an eye for good compositon and her advice has always been very useful. As the daughter of a professional photographer (who’s work you can find here) she is definitely a natural. We’ve travelled to several cities and through these photos I hope i can share our experiences with you. My Canon EOS 70D certainly comes along on the ride whenever we travel. Passports and travel documents can be forgotten but never my gear. I even managed to find a portable tripod at B&H in New York, which fits into my carry-on and I always pack my two lenses – Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 and Canon EF 50mm f1.4 USM.
Authenticity
All the photos on this site were taken by me or my girlfriend. A lot of effort has been made to post the photos as they were shot. I am not a big fan of photo engineering. Some post production work has been performed on some of the photos and this is limitted to minor adjustments on exposure and vibrance. Notice that this is not a commercial site but if you would like to use any of my pictures for commercial purposes, a fee will be charged. If you are using any of the pictures for personal use, all I ask of you is that you obtain permission first and do well to link back to my website or give photo credits.
Prints
If you are interested in prints, just contact me and something can be arranged. I can ship prints or provide you with the raw pictures files.
